so a guy walks into a comedy club

February 20th, 2007

Radar Magazine is running a fantastic article on joke stealing, counting down all the usual suspects: Denis Leary stealing from Bill Hicks, Dane Cook stealing from Louis C.K., and Robin Williams stealing from, well, everybody. A fascinating peek inside the always surprisingly unfun world of stand-up comedy.

I’ve never been a fan of Joe Rogan before, but anybody who gets up on stage and points out what an unfunny ass Carlos Mencia is, they’re okay by me.

I cringe when someone even mentions Denis Leary. He steals from the great Bill Hicks and still can’t be funny. They are right: there is no cure for Leary…

Heathen gods, please resurrect Bill Hicks.

It’s folks like Carlos Mencia and Dane Cook that make me feel really old. I find myself shrugging my shoulders and wondering what I’m missing. You know, it’s kind of a “so this is what the kids think is funny these days? Why I remember when…” type of thing.
