In it, he posits a "Gerontocracy" that rules with both a self-supporting power structure and a paternalistic attitude toward the young. It's a very good book. It made me want to save my money. But then I realized I didn't have any, and that 60-year-olds had bought all the houses. An excellent piece of science fiction on this premise is Holy Fire by Bruce Sterling. In it, he posits a “Gerontocracy” that rules with both a self-supporting power structure and a paternalistic attitude toward the young. It’s a very good book. It made me want to save my money. But then I realized I didn’t have any, and that 60-year-olds had bought all the houses.
