wii are psyched

I’m astounded by Nintendo’s current agility; their new Wii console looks killer, the Wii’s incredibly innovative controller is getting rave reviews, and the Virtual Console “iTunes Music Store for Videogames” looks hot and is confirmed to allow downloads from indie developers. Even their elegantly redesigned DS Lite portable is getting an hypnotically awesome new Mario game and a killer web browser that takes full advantage of both the DS’s dual screens and lower touch screen.

It’s so gratifying seeing both the press and the gaming community reward true innovation; lord knows, not every gaming company is currently taking such risks.

    If I believed I could own one and still be a responsible husband let alone member of the larger community, I would SO PURCHASE ONE. But I think this would render me fat(ter), lazy(ier) and drooling (at all times– not just when I’m alone or asleep).
    I look forward to lost weekends at Joshua’s, as I’m sure he’ll be in possession of one at some point. Please, Joshua?

    Oh, my big plan is for Jeff to get one. I really look forward to trashing his living room as we leap about, controllers in hand.

    The leaping about bit raises a question for me. Does one HAVE to jump about? That is, if you’re not up to fighting with a broadsword or playing a round of tennis, can you do it just with limited wrist motion?
    And how long before someone breaks their mother’s glass coffee table and sues Nintendo for carpal tunnel and glass lacerations?
    I really want to know the answer to the first question. The answer to the second one I think is probably two to four months, and will be preceded by a wave of alarmist newspaper articles.

    I’m really excited about your big plan, but honestly, I don’t think you’re going to have to do all that much to get me to buy one — my monthly income disperses as follows:

    * 50% Rent
    * 20% Groceries & Bills
    * 15% Nintendo and Apple Products
    * 15% Personal Check Sent Directly to Al Qaeda

    …as far as leaping about like a goon goes, I think they kind of want you to leap about (like a goon), but I don’t think you necessarily have to. The controller seems capable of a great deal of finesse and (presumably) its motion through space is not always a 1:1 ratio with the activity on screen.

    iTunes vijiogames store? That’s neat.

    Also, I think Sewing With Aunt Ida is a great game to develop for this controller. No, wait, that’s somebody else who thinks that. Aunt Ida, probably.

    Hi All Experts,I need help…
    1. what kind of cables does the Wii come with?
    2. Is there a VGA-adapter coming out anytime soon?
    3. If i use the s-video cable, will the remote still sense the screen on which my projector projects the image onto?
    Cheers and thanks in advance.
