in praise of global warming

January 31st, 2006

2005 warmest year on record? Just finished the warmest January on record? Lots of new snow, nicely interspersed with lovely forty degree sunshine? I’ll take it!

…minus the hurricanes, tsunamis, and eventual extinctions, of course.

Okay, okay. We should all be driving these. No, really. They’re now down to about $14K, come with A/C, go up to 70 mph, and they’re making a two seater.

Just to sully my spanking new record, I nicked this from Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

I used to work across the street from a Sparrow dealer. The first day I worked there, I watched as a Sparrow came around a corner and rolled right over. The good news is that two guys flipped it back over, and it went on its merry way.

Corbin is a cool company, but not so much for their vehicles. The Merlin is the gas-powered version of the Sparrow, and thereby even less practical, though probably more stable and definitely neat looking.

Corbin is best known for their awesome motorcycle seats. I had one made a few years back. I rode down and spent the day there (they give you a free lunch in their diner) while they sculpted a seat to my butt. One of the better customer experiences I have had.

It should suprise precious few that Ripley’s is a poor source. Corbin Motors, the sister company of the seat-and-accessory company, went out of business in 2003. Darn.

That is putting the “Or not!” back in to “Believe it, or not!”.

I eagerly await upcoming posts on my beard of bees and 37″ curly fingernails.
