a little dinner music

One of the things I’ve become quite fond of lately is “dinner music”, or the putting on of a specific playlist for having dinner and a glass of wine to. Here’s a list of what albums are currently on my “dinner music” playlist:

  • Art Tatum, Complete Capitol Recordings
  • John Coltrane, Ballads
  • Josh Coltrane, Lush Life
  • Miles Davis, Round About Midnight
  • Miles Davis, Kind of Blue
  • Ray Bryant, Montreux ’77
  • Stan Getz, Autour De Minuit
  • Stan Getz & Luis Bonfa, Jazz Samaba Encore!
  • Vince Guaraldi, In Person

…and a few other tracks here and there, but those particular albums are killer all the way through. Do you have any particularly good music you use as “dinner music”?

Time Out by Dave Brubeck et al.

  • Jon

If you’re trying to fuck a girl, I highly recommend any of the following three Nick Lowe albums: The Impossible Bird, Dig My Mood, or The Convincer. Seriously.

Ironically, you should not play Big Black’s Songs About Fucking.

Oh, hey, that’s a valuable piece of advice about Big Black, Jon.

How have the other albums worked for you?

  • Jon

Very well. Nick Lowe’s recent recordings WILL magnetize your penis. They’re almost dangerous.

Ironically, Bongwater’s The Power of Pussy WILL NOT magnetize any vagina except Ann Magnusons, because I bet she loves the sound of her own voice a little too much.

You know, I’ve noticed that discussion of, songs about, or pointing at, vaginas only very rarely leads to any proliferation thereof.

You have a very good sense of music, I must admit :-)
