beta-testing daappelganger
If you have two macs, or one mac and one pc, would you mind testing my latest version of Daappelganger?

I’m about to release it to the world, and I’d like to make sure it works before that. Essentially you will have to:
1) Turn off iTunes’ built-in music sharing.
2) Install the .pkg.
3) Run the Daappelganger.app installed in your application folder.
After that, it will compile an index file of your music and share it out, the same as iTunes; but without iTunes’ restrictions per simultaneous clients or clients per day.
Let me know if/how it works in the comments below or via email. Thanks!

Hmmm… I’m having a bit of trouble. Clicking “Set Name and Start Sharing” prompts me for my password, but immediately comes back with “AppleScript Error - sh: line 1: /etc/daapd.conf: Permission denied (1)”.
The daapelganger.app package contents look totally alien to me, so I’m not sure what’s failing?
If I remember correctly, daapd.conf can also exist in the same directory as the daapd binary, instead of being set to /etc/daapd.conf. It may or may not be easier to write to /Applications/Utilties/daapelganger.app than it is to /etc… so this may be moot.
The interface is rather bitchin’, however.

You’re still running 10.3.x, right? There’s an authentication bug that was fixed in 10.4.2… ~j

This is true. So the installer is only 10.4.2+ compatible then?
